Summary

Rabies is a neurological disease that has been around for thousands of years. It is an RNA virus that is transmitted through bite wounds from infected animals. The virus produces flu symptoms in the beginning, and quickly causes death if not treated. To test for the presence of the rabies virus a number of different methods can be used including fluorescence, light, and electron microscopy, as well as  immunohistochemistry. Rabies is a deadly disease that is 100% preventable. Sadly, many people and animals die each year from this virus. By raising awareness and providing support, many of these deaths can be prevented.
